Before I began my rant please let me qualify the following statements by saying that I am running for the Liberty County Republican Chair Position. Having said that, let us proceed.
The Political Forum at Cleveland Texas on January 28, 2010 was very informative and I appreciate Dayton News and the Cleveland Advocate for holding the event.
Having said that it is my feeling that the core values and/or the Party Affiliations were not addressed by the questions that were presented to the Candidates.
The logistical questions about how one could improve the particular office that the candidates were running for were interesting but I did not come away with a true picture of why the candidates were running for office. I did not come away with an identifiable political position that the candidates follow.
I must say that the candidates of a couple of the races did identify themselves as Conservatives and did allow us an insight into why they became involved in Liberty County Politics. I applaud those candidates and I appreciate their boldness.
If I were a candidate standing on the political stage of a public forum I would tell the public that I am a Conservative Republican. I would also say that I support the National and State Republican Platform.
I would say that I believe in Individualism, Less Government, Lower Taxes, and that I believe that the National Government should stay out of our lives.
It would be great if the Republican Candidates would use their opening statements for the purpose of stating why they are running for the position and identify themselves politically.
Republican Candidates please take the opportunity to differentiate Conservative beliefs from those of the Democratic Party. Distinguishing the political differences between the Republican and Democratic Party will not be seen as divisive or as trouble-making but rather it is a statement of one’s belief system.
Republicans the procedural questions presented to the Candidates at this forum favored the incumbents. In Liberty County the Democrats are the incumbents. If you want to win your political race and help to move Liberty County in a Conservative Republican direction, you better tell the voters who you are and what you stand for politically or you will lose.

EXCLUSIVE: Dayton, Texas Land Rush- more corruption
Land speculators have quietly descended upon the Dayton, Texas area. A select group of Liberty County Officials with inside information have contracted with several out of the area front people to make offers and use ruses to capture land cheaply in the Dayton area. The 'inside traders' are purchasing land in advance of the state buying land in relation to the new tollway coming through Liberty County and Dayton, Texas. Certain land parcels in Dayton could become very valuable in the near future.

Letter to the Editor, in support of Marcus Brand
Letter to the Editor
Most candidates competing for election or re-election will state what they WILL DO if elected. Marcus Brand, candidate for Liberty County Precinct 2 Commissioner is no exception. He promises restored integrity, honesty, respectability, and openness to Liberty County government. These attributes have not been seen in this precinct for ages. Marcus will have an open door policy, be available to all constituents, and genuinely consider all suggestions concerning the best direction for Liberty County. During this election year campaign, Marcus has been tireless in his efforts to contact and meet as many Precinct 2 residents as possible. He is entirely committed to Liberty County and Precinct 2. Many of the residents have noticed his trailer mounted sign parked on the roadside. He is not relying on people to come see him. He is reaching out and taking his campaign to the people of Precinct 2.
Marcus Brand WILL: Be a proponent for and do his best to establish a more efficient Unit System to fairly represent all precincts.
Marcus Brand WILL: Work with the Judge and other Commissioners to establish a more efficient drainage system for all of Liberty County.
Marcus Brand WILL: Also work with Congressman Kevin Brady to convince Union Pacific Railroad to alleviate the drainage problem caused by insufficient trestles in the track from Hardin to Hull. The railroad track serves as a large dam and blocks the North/South flow of excess water resulting in severe flooding during heavy rains.
Marcus Brand WILL NOT: Vote to spend taxpayer dollars without completely gathering all information available.
Marcus Brand WILL NOT: Vote to approve subdivisions adjacent to a highly TOXIC WASTE SITE such as the ones approved west of Dayton.
Marcus Brand WILL NOT: Vote to approve subdivisions in an active oil and gas field such as the ones approved west of Dayton.
Marcus Brand WILL NOT: Vote to accept inadequate subdivision roads for Liberty County maintenance.
Marcus Brand WILL NOT: Vote to purchase property with an extreme toxic mold issue and completely stripped by copper thieves such as the old Wal-Mart building even after being advised of the issues.
Marcus Brand WILL NOT: Subject himself to scrutiny by the FBI. A completely open policy will assure that he is in compliance to all public actions.
Please remember three things this election, voter registration, early voting and Election Day voting. “YOU” CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE THIS YEAR
Voter Registration Deadline-------------February 1, 2010
Early Voting--------------------------------February 16, 2010 to February 26, 2010

Dear LD,
I follow the local politics on your site and others and am thankful everyday that I no longer live in Liberty County. I left because of the corruption and do not regret my decision. I keep abreast of what is going on as I still have legal interests in the area and I also would like to see justice done to those that need it in Liberty County. However, I can’t sit idly by with the latest candidate announcement, that of Charlotte Key Warner for Pct. 2 Commissioner. In her announcement on the other site, she talks a good game and seems to have impressive credentials. But there are some serious omissions.
Ms. Warner has been on the school board of one of the most corrupt and poorest performing school districts in Liberty County. She has been president of said board for several years and during that time, there was a superintendent allowed to run the school district without the proper credentials and he held another full time job while on HISD’s payroll as well. The school district has been “under the gun” for several years for its poor performance and letters even went home in the high school telling parents that the school was not meeting State standard and that kids could transfer.
It is nice that she was a Tx-DOT engineer for SE Texas, but come on people, we have some of the worst bridge and road problems in Texas. She gave up her Professional Engineer (PE) certification to inactive status which seems strange to me as most keep that certificate even after retirement. All that is required is the fees and some class time every year, not such a big deal. So she has ethic hours; they are part of the requirement for keeping up with your PE certification, again not such a big deal and now she is teaching math at school. Why not in Hardin where she is on the board, they need all the help they can get as that is one of the areas that they have failed in. I’m glad I’m not voting in this election but if I were, it wouldn’t be for Ms. Warner.
